Beau Schuyler joined Capitol Hill Strategies in
March 2009 bringing more than 15 years of political experience to the firm.
Most recently, he served as senior director, federal government relations
for UST Public Affairs Inc. In that role, he worked on a variety of federal
legislative issues facing UST’s smokeless tobacco and wine businesses.
Previously, he served as a founding partner of the Washington lobbying
firm Parven, Pomper, Schuyler, Inc. where he worked on corporate tax issues,
FDA regulatory issues, energy and transportation policy, international trade
and broad based democratic legislative strategy.
Schuyler also has
extensive legislative experience obtained from his years of service on
Capitol Hill and political campaigns. Prior to lobbying, he served as
Legislative Director to Congressman John Tanner who sits on the House Ways
and Means Committee and is a founder of the Blue Dog Coalition, a group of
moderate Democrats in Congress. He worked closely with Congressman Tanner on
policy issues before the Ways and Means Committee and the Blue Dog
Coalition. Schuyler was responsible for advising the Congressman on all
aspects of the Ways and Means Committee's trade and tax agenda, including
trade negotiations, tax policy and federal budgeting. While with Congressman
Tanner he was actively involved in the passage of several free trade
agreements including Chile, Singapore, Australia and Central America. He was
also involved in Blue Dog Coalition legislative alternatives to the federal
budget, tax bills and other policy matters.
Schuyler also served as
Legislative Director for Congressman Mike McIntyre handling Agriculture and
Defense issues and worked on the Gore 2000 and Clinton-Gore ’96 campaigns.
He started his career on Capitol Hill working for Congressman Charlie Rose
of North Carolina.
